The 21st annual Maine Home, Remodeling & Garden Show , an annual favorite for Mainers planning for springtime, will take place at Portland’s Cumberland County Civic Center on February 19-20. The theme of this year’s show is updating and remodeling in today’s eco-friendly world.
The 2011 Maine Home, Remodeling & Garden Show will feature helpful home and garden demonstrations, and over 180 exhibitors. An assortment of new vendors will be featured at this year’s event, including Pro Tub & Countertop Refinishing, Miltons Spas, Home Again by Hancock Lumber, Nuimage Awnings, Morin’s Fine Furniture & Refinishing, and Lucas Tree Experts. Wilbur Stoneworks will wow attendees with its impressive stone sculpture as they enter the show.
A particular draw again this year at the weekend-long event will be its “Meet the Chefs” series, to feature demonstrations from talented chefs and mixologists on Saturday and Sunday from the likes of Walter’s, The Corner Room and the soon-to-open gingko blue lounge in Portland, as well as from No. 10 Water restaurant at the Captain Daniel Stone Inn in Brunswick and Stripers Waterside Restaurant at the Breakwater Inn in Kennebunkport. Mary Ann Esposito, host of the nationally televised PBS show “Ciao Italia,” also will make a guest appearance.
“This year’s Maine Home, Remodeling & Garden Show will offer something for everyone,” according to Cynthia Dickson O’Connor, show producer. “Whether you want to liven up your home, gardens or apartment, our 2011 show is sure to inspire a variety of home decorating ideas, and offer all sorts of practical advice and ‘how-to’ tips.”
Event vendors and exhibitors will cover a wide array of home improvement topics, from remodeling and resurfacing to in-house spas and awnings. The show’s seminars, attendee favorites each year, will center on new topics including geothermal heating and cooling systems in Maine. Attendees will be invited to learn how geothermal works, its practical application for homes and businesses, its cost-effectiveness and investment returns, and ease of installation from start to finish. Additional seminars will include color trends for 2011, what to look for when hiring contractors, the newest kitchen and bath remodeling tips, resurfacing, and closet “dos and don’ts.”
The event’s “Kids’ Workshops,” sponsored by Home Depot, will be a hit with children who will be invited to build fun birdhouses to take home, and a Habitat for Humanity raffle, vendor prizes, and giveaways also will be offered to event guests.
The Cumberland County Civic Center is located at the corner of Spring Street and Center Street in downtown Portland. Nearby street, garage and lot parking will be available.
